i was putting the finishing touches on the february issue and thought… what the hell i will post a wanted ad for old mini bike and trail bikes on the classifieds page
i got a voice mail today from an older guy saying that he had an old 1972 rupp mini bike for sale… i called him back and asked how much he was looking to get out of it…… and he said "i will take $35 for it"…. ya i know, i tipple checked that i heard i’m right…
he said that he got it from a guy for $60 with a locked motor, but took it all apart and just never got around to putting it back together, but while it was apart he painted the frame and gas tank… and everything else is there
thats all i know about the bike right now, not sure what kind for rupp it is or anything else, but i figured for $35 dollars, i can’t go wrong
i will post pics tomorrow night after i pick it up
The wife will kill me if I start any more projetcs at work, which keeps me there late and NOT at home..
But the crank has messed up threads. Many abusive attempts to beat the flywheel off have resulted in less-than-nice threads on the flywheels side. I’ve done an ok job cleaning them up but i’d feel better with better threads. I assume the crank is cast iron. Has anyone had any luck welding, turning, and recutting the threads on a crank?
I’ve got a few cranks from late model rotary mower engines, and could turn the main journals to fit the horizontal block, but they are longer on the flywheel side and have a different taper. Is there a points type flywheel that would work with this crank? Preferably a die cast zinc flywheel and not a heavy as hell cast iron one.
And when did they switch to the iron flywheel?
